The Polmare make border controls on persons entering and leaving the territory of the State in order to prevent illegal immigration or emigration. To this end, the office is connected to the central computer system of the Ministry of the Interior, as well as the police headquarters in Reggio Calabria.

The offices of Polmare are located in a separate building prefabricated to a plan, which is located near the exit gate from the Container Terminal MCT, which pass by the crews from ships moored, flying foreign flags that should proceed to the external or embark.
